Tunes and Notes

Part-time Musician

Music, aside from writing–though not that far aside–is what takes up the most space in my brain. Every hour of every day, I have a song playing in my head–whether I want it or not.

My parents raised me on rock and roll, and so the genre is deeply ingrained in my soul. Over the years, I’ve gone from a strict classic rock snob to a more open-minded metal, folk, “country”, and grunge enjoyer. All these genres work their way into my own songs.

I like to think I’m influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Greta Van Fleet, Ghost, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Billy Squier, The Beatles, Bryan Adams, Colin James, CCR, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, The Police, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, The Tea Party, The Tragically Hip, and many many more.

Some people tell me I sound like Alice in Chains, though, so I guess that should fit in there too.

I’m always learning with music, and base my writing on sound instead of theory–which is a nice way of saying I’m too lazy to try and take a course at Berklee. But it’s more rock and roll this way anyway. At least I think so.

So enjoy my songs. I release more all the time.

On the Airwaves

The good people at CJSW–the student radio station for the University of Calgary–seem to love my music. So much so that they keep playing it on their shows (especially Nightmare Delirium. You deserve a cookie, or even two cookies). I couldn’t be more grateful to them. You all rock.
